Colours of Provence

Near our gite in Provence was this field where lavender and wheat were growing together. I found the combination looked very atractive, actually what I liked about it were the colours in the sceen, lavender beige & green. To emphasise this I attempted to produced a more abstract image by zooming the lens from 70 to 35mm as I took the shoot.

Fields of purple lavender are one of the attractions of Provence and in Early July the crop looks at itd best.

Harvest Moon

The real harvest moon occurs around the end of September at the Autumn equinox (23/9 this year). At the beginning of July the farmers of Provence were already busy with the combines cuttiing the fields of wheat and barley. They worked well after sunset until around 11 pm. With large headlights mounted on their giant machines they hardly needed the extra light of the moon. But although the full moon in my picture occurred at the end of June and is therefore not strictly a Harvest Moon, I have borrowed the name for my picture.

Same place different time. This is the same view of the mountains as the previous image but later in the day. The sun has crossed the sky and it is now late afternoon. The somber, sleepy mood of early morning has become the bright white heat of the summer sun.
The two images were taken from slightly different vantage points, note the change in the foreground. This view shows the route between the cliffs into the hidden valley beyond, in the previous image this was all in ailhouette.
